Farewell Paly (Almost) - Teams of Four
March 7, 2015

The weather was gorgeous as ten teams of four teed off in this unique format.  Scores were recorded as follows:

  1. First Hole - best net score
  2. Second Hole - two best net scores
  3. Third Hole - three best net scores
  4. Fourth Hole - all four net scores
  5. Rinse and repeat until 18 holes have been played
This made the team/course par 162, a number that was bested by all but one team and that team shot even par.

In the Sticks Flight the team of Bob Gleason, Jim Schenkel, Ryan Gallagher and Greg Val were 14 under par to take first place.  The Duffers Flight was topped by the team of Dennis Barbata, Darien Arends, Keith Arends and Tracy Powell at 16 under par.

On a side note, Gordy Cole, our oldest competing member taking on some who are half his age, aced the 9th hole the day before this event.  The details are sketchy but rumor has it that the ball never left the ground and headed straight for the green.  None of the players were quite sure where it stopped so the search was on.  After a couple of minutes someone decided to look in the cup and there it was.  Expanding the tradition of buying a round following the monumental event, the ever-so-gracious Gordy opened a bar tab and furnished tournament participants with their favorite libation.

Congatulations to the winners and to Gordy for a job well done.
