The skies were blue and the winds moderate for this year's Director's Cup at Baylands Golf Links.
This is one of the club's major tournaments where we crown both overall low gross and low net champions
whose names will be added to hall of fame plaque in the cafe at the course.
The highlight of the tournament was Michael Kern's ace on the 15th hole during Saturday's round.
I had the pleasure of witnessing the ball hit short of the pin, roll past the hole part way up the slope
and then reverse directions to trickle into the back of the cup.
The overall low gross prize went to Rocky Wolf with a 6-over total of 150 for the two days.
In the overall low net competition Buzz Ogren took the top spot with a whopping 18 under 126,
six shots better than his closest competitor.
In the First Flight, Rocky Wolf took low gross honors while Doug Marinkovich won low net.
Other winners in the flight included Dave Bridgman, Rick Wheat and Andrew Clauson.
Low Gross in the Second Flight went to Buzz Ogren while Jonathan Radin won low net
by one stroke over Heath Black. Patrick Beaulieu and ace shooter Michael Kern
shared third place.
In the Third Flight Dominic Ascani shot a consistent 88/89 to win low gross.
Ken Arends struggled a bit on Saturday with a 74 but came back on Sunday with a 66 to win low net.
Just to prove that one's age is only a number, 85 year old Gordy Cole shared second low net
with Lou Sehl who is 28 years younger than Gordy. Jim Schenkel was just a shot behind
the dynamic Mr. Cole with a two-day total of 142.
Congratulations to the winners and thanks to all who came out on the sunny day.
