NCGA Zone Qualifier
March 9, 2019
Baylands Golf Links

Rain greeted the members as they teed it up for the NCGA Zone Qualifier at Baylands. The inclement weather gradually subsided during the day but the course remained soggy from all the recent showers. Two teams at the top of the qualifier list will move on to compete as one team in San Francisco Bay Zone finals at Poppy Hills GC and Bayonet GC on May 30 and 31.

The team of John Driver and Brad Martin shot a great 12-under net 60 to take the top qualifying spot while the father/son team of Todd Gebhart and Matt Gebhart finished one shot behind to take the second spot. Congratualtions to both teams and good luck in the next round. Let's hope they duplicate the feat of the 2013 team that won SF Bay championship and moved on to the zone finals.

This event was also a standard four ball where the teams competed for prize money and the coveted TOC points. In the First Flight, the Gebharts tied the Driver/Martin team requiring a card playoff to determine the top spot. Tood and Matt won the playoff with a better score on the last three holes.

In the Second Flight four ball, the team of Ross Erickson and Roger Kalemba finished at 11-under 61, three shots clear of their nearest opponent, to win the flight. The win gave Roger a 26 point lead over his nearest competitor in the TOC points race.

Good luck to the qualifiers in the next round of competition.
